make your own barbie clothes part one

Img_3818

this is my first attempt at a "no sew" or "very little sew" outfit for a barbie using fabric scraps, part of our recycling lesson. i think it came out pretty cool! This meeting (mar 7th) will have a special guest, Cleaver!!! the girls will bring their dolls and with cleaver and the other moms, we will pull fabric from a large pile of scraps in the center of our circle and "make" our outfits together.

the dress is just a square piece of fabric folded at the top, wrapped around and tied with some ribbon around the waist (i also experimented with some elastic cord as a tie, it works nicely because it really stretches tightly). for the top, i folded some fabric and cut a "T" shape with the top of the T along the fold, cut out a "V" for the neck, pulled it over the dolls head and sewed buttons at each sleeve to keep it closed at the wrist. then i belted it with ribbon. EZ!!!
