today was our nature hike, earning us our health patch. instead of just talking about excercise, we got out and did some. for us wimpy californians though, it was cold! thank goodness the sun was out, clear skies and breezy, making for some beautiful scenery. our destination was a nature park in the middle of long beach, a typical so cal city with houses mixed in with strip malls. the nature center is large enough to take a 1 or 2 mile hike, along with a 1/2 mile paved trail for wheelchair access. i am so thankful it is here, we go several times a month all year round. it is a true oasis in this concrete jungle.
i hope someday long beach residents will embrace the wetlands project (see my sidebar for info) and create a beach themed nature park and wildlife preservation area. it amazes me how many people have no idea there is a pristine wetland just down the street with so much potential. check out the website, i hope we get another unique place to get away from it all.
