garage sales: the next generation

i am over the top overwhelmed with my own garage clutter, so when emily came running home requesting her piggy bank for a new dollhouse she saw at a neighbors garage sale my first thought was "oh no! where to keep it!" but she was so excited and willing to spend her own money, how could i resist?

Alexander

Horse_book

when i first saw this book i realized it was one i had read many times as a child, but hadn't seen or thought about in ??? years. you know that strange feeling of recognition, a memory from way back? my mom made me a striped horse that looked just like this, i still have it packed away. i wonder if this was her inspiration?

by the way, the chicken on this cover reminds me of this.

thrifting tales

i have been looking for bookends for the girls room for a long time, but i never see any that i like. recently i was passing through the thrift shop my dad works at and some disney dwarf statues caught my eye from across the room. they were super cool (to me anyway) and heavy! perfect bookends! i checked the price and saw it said 250 and then a dot and then two more 00's! ok now, this is a thrift shop but there is a little "boutique" area with higher end stuff. i checked each one and sure enough they each said 250.00. i took one to the check out area and the clerk confirmed it sure did look like 250.00 each to her too. the price could not be changed by the clerk because the "price lady" was in charge of all prices and not in that day.

i put them back of course and told the story to my dad later that day. he was SHOCKED! these are just ceramic statues with no markings and plenty of chips. i guess it is possible they are some kind of collectible, but i would think even 20 dollars a piece would be a lot.

well, if you know my dad (or read my blog) you can bet these statues appeared on my doorstep soon after. he spoke with the price lady who says it was just a goof. i wonder how many people picked those up and then quickly put them down thinking they were holding some expensive collectible!
