things i am enjoying
my goofy attempts to do some natural "art" after watching this movie (i ran out of rocks if you can believe it!) we have been loving these film noirs as well: dangerous crossing was excellent and i LOVED daisy kenyon (the writing was insane, so awesome... at least to me anyway!) we are currently watching this.
still havent seen the end of this movie and watching this show (reminds me of the original greenpeace, save the whales! remember??), hard to stomach the whales getting killed though, real hard!

When hubby gets the flicks
a few weekends back, chris did the movie picking. here was the selection:
the lives of others (in german)
and this (in korean)
and this
all i can say is that each was amazing in it's own way, completely different and great. i was thinking about the movie "the lives of others" for days after, it was so well done. (and i love virginia madsen, am i the only one who loved this movie?)

after the movie we will attempt to walk back to lizzies daycare to pick her up, thats a lot of walking but i need it! surf camp resumes tomorrow.

james bond forever
love this movie, i know, i know....but james bond holds a special place in my heart. for many years my brother and i spent weekends watching james bond marathons on tbs....lets just say my brother was going through some serious stuff and we "bonded" while watching these movies. i always think of him when i watch a new bond film or see a marathon advertised...dont seem to have hours on end to watch back to back movies these days...too busy with kids and work. funny how you associate one thing with something else...james bond and a little brother struggling with life, forever bonded, so to speak.
did i mention my brother turned me on to soundgarden too? what a sweet coincidence, ahhh chris cornell....xoxoxo to matt.

dont forget the documentary aisle
have i told you i like documentaries? oh, probably a lot of times. well, this one is about a band called the dandy warhols, a band i have seen advertised for years and years, playing all over the place and never knew what they were all about. let's just say i probably missed more than a dozen opportunities to see them...bummer! once i saw this movie and heard their music, i really became a fan. i love the dandy warhols! they are the perfect mix of modern and retro music, hopefully they can keep from overdosing long enough for me to see them live.

documentary queen
a great movie about a father and son who travel the world together interviewing other fathers and sons.
"one year off" was the first book i read about a family traveling the world with their kids, i read it twice. it is a fascinating thing, to travel the world together. i think the experience would be challenging and who could really afford it? i don't know, but i really love the idea.
12,000 miles is one of a dozen books i have read or am currently reading about traveling the world with your kids. (this book is especially funny because the author makes fun of another family who traveled the world at the same time: the perfect "wilson family". i think i found this wilson family on line and they are amazingly "perfect"). i just started monkey dancing and have give me the world ready to read next, line them up!

perusing the documentaries
inspired by this (for some reason this post triggered a memory of this movie and this era), i remembered an awesome movie for anyone really into reading. this movie is slow, but for anyone seriously handicapped by a reading disorder (totally addicted to reading, like me), i highly recommend it!
there is a surprise attached to this movie that i might reveal someday, i know so many people will be on pins and needles! just watch the movie!
just a quick note about this movie (i keep "picking" at this post!), i think this movie was so overwhelming to me because i grew up with bohemian, anti-vietnam war (really war protesting), artsy parents...(won't go in to their current political thoughts right now, but you can probably guess) who were really into literature, art and education. this movie stems from the sixties era and the people in it feel like family to me in some way. an interesting question this movie asks is why some people write many novels and some just write one, specifically authors who write just one GREAT book. why did they write just one? is that all they had in them? only one great story? were they discouraged in some way, not to continue writing? did they still write? were they not recognized as genius, not successful financially and then had to make a living doing something else? i love and am fascinated by the whole writing process (with all creative outlets) and how some people "make it", some people don't and all those in between.
