daily dose of creativity

since i set up an impromptu "art studio" on our dining room table, the kids have been obsessed with crafting non stop

all on her own, liz started making these puppets. she even found chopsticks and used the tape instead of glue at just the right spot. strange!

and here is my "duck" book, i am a huge fan of keri smith (as everyone knows) and thought, heck i can make a little goofy book with a catch phrase and xerox it myself. be my own publisher, and here it is! a bit rough but i think it will xerox ok. i will hand them out at the duck patrol today (the kids can fold them up on their own)

i made this t shirt for lizzie to wear tomorrow since she doesnt have a camp fire uniform yet. we have our local newspaper coming tomorrow, cant wait!! we are also going to try and get to a craft festival if we can get going early enough in the morning.

our "outdoor" table had to come in from the recent rain and is heading up to the cabin (chris is taking it as i write this). not sure what we will do next summer, maybe we will invest in a real out door table. this was our quickie cheap fix (ikea table) and i LOVED it, but it will not make it through even one winter outside. lizzie loved dancing on it and i actually thought i might leave it in our living room (swapping out our fancy modern table) but in the end it was just too big.

my bohemian girl, waldorf would do her wonders, she is the free spirit of our clan.

this is emily's version of a sick duck being fed bread, interesting how kids interpret the world into their art. more on the duck patrol tomorrow.

saving the wetlands

i think we might be saving the wetlands, but not sure why we need to bail out a millionaire, seems a bit shady but hopeful.

camp fire sewing

we made bags to hold plastic bags... cloth bags to hold paper bags... you know, the tube with elastic on either end and you hook it up and pull the plastic bag out of the bottome? yeah that.

the girls got a little lecture about using the sewing machine as we sewed up the sides, they worked the pedal and asked questions about the parts. we will continue to do sewing at our meetings, i plan on having them make stuffed animals this year and work more on the machine. they will be able to design the animal, make a pattern, cut it out and piece it, then sew it and stuff it! whew, that will be a long meeting, but oh so fun!

i took a recent trip to a waldorf school, wish we had one closer to our house. lets just say, i felt very at home there. my parents raised me in the late sixties and seventies and did their own version of waldorf at our house (my mom freaked when i told her about the store, she said, "thats right up my alley!") so you will see some waldorf influence coming soon. a friend asked me to describe the waldorf style (and forgive me, this is not an "educated" answer) i said its like communal hardcore peace/love hippy meets little house on the prairie... (remembering there is an amazing theory on education mixed in too)... more on that later.
