Autumn approaches

not quite here yet, but colors are changing. here is some real world cabin pictures, time for a cabin tour:

not-so-clean windows

deck supplies that haven't made it back to the garage yet (and a porta crib lizzie hasnt slept in for months but i am too lazy to find another place to store blankets and pillows, it has been so handy! but a pretty big eyesore)

Img_8874

this atrocious tv was left behind from the previous owners and we have mixed feelings about it... this super dark basement master bedroom is a great place to watch a movie on a sunday afternoon, forget about the dirty laundry piling up.

Plastering

we managed to put out 50 flyers this week, politely left in our neighbor's mailboxes. today we put up 3 posters and handed out a few more flyers. chipping away at it, i am so proud of emily. she walks with her flyers and smiles, saying hello to everyone as we walk by. she shyly tells them to please help save the wetlands and i know for a 7 year old how hard it must be to walk up to total strangers and introduce herself (heck, i dont feel comfortable doing it myself!) she is learning so much, between all the hours of careful letter writing and guerilla chalk messages plus the social interaction with our neighbors. i am hoping she will see how her own simple gestures can make a difference (just like voting and doing helpful things for others). it may not seem like a lot, but i know there are at least a handful of people out there who will get a flyer or see our poster, log on to the wetland website and be excited to help save it (just like i was). thats all it takes, a few inspired people to inspire a few more and together we might have a chance.

so after a busy week and busy saturday morning, we are off to the cabin! hopefully some autumn pictures will come soon!

politics, shmolitics

is that a word? hmmm... well here on the homefront, we are doing our best to get the word out. lots of letter writing and flyer passing, soon to be poster plastering:

not sure what to think about this. keeping my fingers crossed and hoping my neighbors see the light (and get a fire under their butts to do something about this!)

Treasure Hunt!

Map making 101

Img_8780

we worked on maps tonight, talking about maps (city, country, world) and parts of a map (north, south, east, west). the girls placed their houses on a huge map of our city and used cross streets and landmarks (church, park, school) to place the exact location. the highlight of the night was our treasure hunt though, the girls worked as a team (12 girls!) to follow the map i made (just minutes before the meeting started, whew!) and the secret location was:

the night was a blur:

good morning!

after a weekend of work and nook cleaning, i am ready for my day off!

Img_8750

man, what a job! not quite done but getting there. i keep all my keepsakes here because (i know you wouldn't believe it by looking around my cluttered house) but i really don't like teeny tiny objects on every table. i used to love that kind of stuff but now i don't want 100 different things to dust and move around, plus the hordes of toys mixed in, no thanks! so this is where i keep all the travel souvenirs and family "treasures" and it is overflowing. not enough space to display it all, so i am going to try and rotate a bit more. i had fun tripping down memory lane while i cleaned yesterday.

the necklace that "started it all"

the "vultures" circled while i cleaned and liz acquired some fluffy pink makeup bag (not sure where it came from) but she had fun packing it with her things and then repacking it over and over again.
